Medical and recreational cannabis is legal in several states and appears to be growing every year. We offer professional grade scales used for licensed grow facilities, cannabis harvesting and cultivation, and retail dispensaries.
One question that we often get from potential customers is what scales do you recommend? Well, to be honest some of the rules on this topic have evolved over time and can vary from state to state. To the best of our knowledge, any person or company buying or selling cannabis must have a legal for trade scale.
These are not pocket scales that you can find for weighing weed online for like $10 or $20. A scale used for cannabis sales needs to be NTEP approved legal for trade with a Certificate of Conformance number (CoC#). Now there is some debate on whether you need a class I or class II scale and if you need readability of 0.01 grams or 0.1 grams. We have had scale manufacturers tell us that you will eventually need legal for trade scales where e = d, in other words the readability is the same whether you’re using the certified reading or not.
As we’ve stated in the past, when it comes to buying / selling cannabis, we always suggest that you contact your state to determine what rules currently exist before you make a scale purchase.

Final Thoughts
Growing, cultivating, harvesting, and selling cannabis is new to a lot of us. We are all learning what types of scales work the best and are the most accurate and durable. Cannabis is likely going to be weighed multiple times throughout the entire process. It could be weighed in bulk on a Brecknell DCSB floor scale or possibly a CCi 220 bench scale. It could be weighed and sold to a customer at the dispensary after being accurately weighed on either an A&D, Ohaus, or Intelligent NTEP legal balance. If you need some assistance choosing the correct cannabis scale for your application, be sure to contact our customer service department.
