I think we’ve mentioned this in the past but in case we haven’t….
We actually use the Mettler Toledo PS60 electronic shipping scale in our everyday shipping. We have it connected to our UPS Worldship software and it displays the weight inside the software each time we place a box on the scale.
Well unfortunately this past week, somehow we broke the USB port off our PS60 shipping scale. This meant that our scale no longer displayed the weight inside the UPS Worldship software and that we would need to MANUALLY TYPE each boxes weight into our software!
You don’t realize how good you have it until something breaks and you have to change your process. I’m sure some of you can appreciate this. Of course, this week we had tons of boxes to ship out and we’re manually entering each one into the Worldship software!
We finally got the scale fixed yesterday and it’s working beautifully once again. But I learned a couple of lessons that I would like to share with you.
First, if you ship boxes each day and you’re manually entering weight into your software… please do some homework and see if you can add a Mettler Toledo BC60 shipping scale to your process. It will make your life easier and in our experience, the scales are very reliable and it’s well worth your money to make life a little easier for you, and/or your employees.
Secondly, if you ship boxes out on a regular basis, do yourself a favor and buy a backup shipping scale. Ideally, you will want a backup scale that can also connect to your shipping software. This way, you’re not scrambling when you have a failure. Or perhaps, depending on your shipping volume, you could even create a second shipping station including a computer, shipping scale, tape, and boxes.
