Continuing with our series of video reviews that we started awhile back…. this entry we’re going to take a look at the unboxing of a vet scale that was purchased online. The purchase was made on Amazon I believe but you can also buy that vet scale on our website as well. Of course we recommend buying from an actual scale company website since we know the products and can actually recommend the correct products for you if you email and ask us. To the big websites, this is simply a part number.
This vet scale in the video is essentially the Optima OP-922 vet scale as far as I can tell. It has the same OP-902 style (cheap) weight indicator which we’ve discussed before. It has the same painted steel scale platform with stainless cover. This is actually a pretty nice vet scale for the money.
The only thing I would suggest is to upgrade the weight indicator to something a little better like the OP-900 weight indicator. Those are a little more rugged than the plastic OP-902 weight indicators.
The rubber mat is a nice feature that comes with this vet scale. You can see from the video how the dog reacts when on the matted scale platform.
The “legs” that he’s referring to is actually what we would refer to as the foot or feet. They are adjustable and you don’t want to screw these completely up into the load cell.
The plugin that he mentions is the RS-232 plug. That is normally used for printing or sending the weight data to the computer. This is not something that is supported by many folks. Can you send weight data or print it, probably…. But it’s up to you to make that work.
This is a vet scale that you would want to keep indoors. Could you use it outdoors? Yes briefly, but the components in this system are not designed for prolonged outdoor use. If you need a vet scale for outdoors, then you will probably want to check out one of our build your own scale kits that we have frequently talked about in the past.
If you’ve read our work in the past, you know that we generally recommend the Weighsouth VS-2501 vet scale for most situations. And in this situation, it would be the scale that we’d recommend as well. If you’re in the market for a veterinarian scale, contact us or browse our site to see what we have available. We have a lot of different choices from Tree, Optima and Weighsouth to name a few.
